YOUR CAT IS SPECIAL

ACANA benefits cats of every variety. Just like you, your cat is unique and feeding requirements will vary with environment, age and activity. The table below provides a starting point, to be adjusted as needed. We recommend feeding twice daily and always keeping fresh water available.

† Use a standard 250ml/120g measuring cup. Serve dry or lightly moistened. See your veterinarian regularly. To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.

CALORIE DISTRIBUTION

Unique compared to conventional foods, ACANA delivers more calories from protein and fat and fewer calories from carbohydrates, reducing the risk of obesity and promoting your cat’s peak health.

Metabolizable Energy is 4100 kcal/kg (492 kcal per 250ml/120g cup), with 36 % from protein, 22 % from fruits and vegetables, and 42 % from fat.

BIOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE™

MEAT-BASED FOODS THAT MIRROR YOUR CAT’S EVOLUTIONARY DIET.

The Near Eastern wildcat is ancestor and closest relative of all domestic cats. And while years of breeding has produced hundreds of ‘different looking cats’, the internal workings of wild and domestic cats remain unchanged, so it’s no surprise that their dietary needs remain the same too.

Our award-winning Biologically Appropriate philosophy is simple: mirror the quantity, freshness and variety of meats that cats are evolved to eat, while limiting the carbohydrates and synthetic ingredients that don’t belong in a cat’s natural diet.

Your cat is a carnivore and biologically adapted for a diet rich in meat. Equipped with sharp teeth, a single hinge jaw, and a short digestive tract, domestic cats are anatomically designed to break down protein and fat from meat.

That’s why we loaded ACANA Wild Prairie with 75% meat, including free-run chicken, turkey, whole nest-laid eggs, wild-caught fish – all deemed fit for human consumption.

Entirely free of the pea or potato protein concentrates, ACANA derives its rich protein content from animal ingredients (not plants), supporting lean muscle mass and nourishing your cat completely.

We use fresh meats in their most natural and nourishing form. That’s why ½ of the poultry and fish in ACANA Wild Prairie is fresh, and 1/2 is dried or oils to provide a concentrated source of nourishing meat protein.

Consider the variety in the natural diet: eggs today, a duck or goose tomorrow, fresh fish the next. Mother Nature provides a diversity of proteins and fats essential to the peak health of cats.

That’s why ACANA Wild Prairie features a diversity of free-run chicken and turkey, whole eggs and wild-caught fish, all in richly nourishing WholePrey ratios of meat, organs and cartilage that mimic the natural diet.

In her infinite wisdom, Mother Nature matched the nutrients in whole animals to perfectly meet your cat’s needs. Muscle meat provides protein and fat; organs supply vitamins and minerals; bones and cartilage provide calcium and phosphorus.

ACANA features WholePrey™ ratios of meat, organs and cartilage that deliver nutrients in highly bioavailable form – dramatically reducing the need to add synthetic vitamins or supplements to our foods.

Your cat has no nutritional requirement for carbohydrates and his natural diet contains very few, if any. Carbohydrates are widely recognized as a leading cause of obesity and diabetes – yet conventional cat foods often exceed 50% carbohydrate content.

That’s why ACANA limits total carbohydrate content and replaces fast digesting carbohydrates like rice, tapioca and potato with healthy, low-glycemic fruits and vegetables such as squash and greens. These enter the blood stream slowly, avoiding spikes in blood sugar and decreasing the potential for fat storage.
